Muğla to Köyceğiz

Climbed another pass this morning past lizards scrambling in the rocks by the side of the road. These were not the usual tiddlers we've seen before in hot countries, but were fat as a babies arm and looked like the sort of thing you'd see in a reptile house. The top of the pass gained us spectacular views down to the sea, a plain beside it and more hills beyond. Ended the day at a sleepy town by a lake, separated from the sea by a small strip of land and a swampy creek. It's a very pleasant spot, the still water of the lake ringed by mountains hazy in the distance.

Breaking News......!! Interpol have revealed the search is now on for man and woman travelling through Europe on bicycles who claim to be from northern England (Lancaster, in fact) although both have dubious accents - pseudonyms include Apollo and Venus. This couple have, so far, blagged innocent tourists out of 5 star hotel accommodation in Vienna, a cruise along the Croatian coast and villa accommodation in Cephalonia - but, worse, have now been spotted in various places on the Turkish mainland feeding capsite cats milk from titanium cooking bowls and eating like natives, for free, with the local populace in self serve canteens. There is a small reward available for any cafe/bar that makes them pay for a meal!!

Great set of photos, really enjoyed your travels through Greece and into Turkey - who were those lovely people you posed with in Kephalonia?

When camping beside swampy creek in Turkey the lizards - even big ones from the reptile house - will be the very least of your worries - look out for those small flying insects that bite and bite and bite ...... and then itch.........

Enough already with the graphic photos of various anatomical lesions, the mind boggles should anyone develop bikers bum.

After 10 days offline the correspondence seems to have moved on apace, less focus on chickpea-honey-sesame snacks, more on attack by insects. Well we know ALL about those, the 4 days in the Amazon jungle were spent carrying out biological warfare.....you never leave the hut until every visible square cm of skin is well coated with Deet. Then you
have to avoid licking it or letting any drip down with sweat (oh yes, plenty of that) into eyes or mouth. 3 showers a day needed to stay comfortable, plenty of Deet used as a consequence. Amazing sightings of wildlife & fauna. Now back in civilisation & a quick catchup with blogs before leaving for London tomorrow (Mon).
Speak soon! Love from VG and Jungle-Mum
